Predicted Scores GW15

Changes and Notes this week following the GW14 fixtures:

Biggest Attack Gains
Aston Villa + 5.16
Newcastle United + 4.99
Queens Park Rangers + 3.82

Villa’s spot at the top may be a bit surprising given the generally lacklustre 1-0 result against a poor Reading defence last week.  However, they had chances all day and probably should have netted at least another.  Newcastle weren’t great, but did have 6 shots on target against a superb Stoke defence.  However, given they had only 9 shots total and 5 in the box, the accuracy number was probably mostly luck.  QPR were also on the front foot at Sunderland.

Biggest Defence Gains
Fulham + 7.10
Swansea + 6.73
West Ham United + 5.38

Second week in a row in this list for Fulham.  Somewhat surprising given Hangeland’s absence; could it be they have been less open given the injury to their star centre back?  Unsure, but something to keep your eye on.  Swansea continue to improve as well and seem to have shaken off their early season troubles.  As mentioned below, the Red Devils’ attack was bland and the Hammers were the beneficiaries.

Biggest Overall Gains
West Ham + 7.16
Norwich City + 5.29
Swansea City + 5.17

West Ham may have been nondescript at Old Trafford, but holding United to a single goal on the road is an accomplishment.  Norwich City and Swansea City both continue their solid form of late, with the Canaries in particular looking like a very solid club at the moment.

Biggest Attack Losses
Chelsea                - 7.62
West Bromwich Albion - 4.90
Manchester United - 3.84

Second week in a row on top of this dubious list for Chelsea.  Benitez looks to be unconcerned about his attack, choosing to drop Mata for Bertrand at home.  While it’s debatable that Mata needed a rest as claimed, what is confusing is why another attacking option wasn’t selected in his place.  Baffling, really.  The six week form has Chelsea as the 11th most potent attack, indicative of how awful they have been under Benitez so far.  Mata and Hazard owners are jumping ship as quickly as possible.

Elsewhere, the Bagggies probably should have expected more at Swansea, although Laudrup's men have been solid in defence lately.  Still though 6 shots and just 1 on target is what teams manage against City, not the Swans.  Manchester United were also quite disappointing and got their only goal from a deflection.

Biggest Defense Losses
Reading - 5.53
Stoke City - 4.78
Sunderland - 4.19

Reading allowed only a single goal but were dominated for the second straight week.  They are pretty clearly the worst defensive team in the league.  Stoke were not quite as excellent as usual, but still solid.  Sunderland allowed a ton of chances for the second straight week, but Mignolet bailed them out this time (rather than open the flood gates as in week 13).

Biggest Overall Losses
Chelsea - 8.10
Southampton - 5.82
Liverpool - 4.38

The Benitez era has seen Chelsea’s overall rating drop over 12.5 points.  Needless to say, it hasn’t been a swimming start for the former Liverpool man.  Speaking of which, the Reds have to be disappointed with their performance on the road.  A loss was probably expected, but Spurs really did a number on Liverpool’s makeshift backline and holding mids.  Southampton also must be disappointed with the performance at home even if the draw wasn’t an awful result.
