GW16 Match Centre

The indicators against the shot data here tell us that City managed above totals over one standard deviation better than those which most teams manage when United come visiting whereas Utd put in an "average" performance.  United are just so thoroughly lethal in front of goal this season, maintaining a scary goal conversion rate greater than 40% and with two of the best forwards in Premier League history is it really that much of a surprise.  Tevez was at the sharp end of City's attack and one most wonder why he didn't start.

Great results from Everton and a solid performance, managing 20 shots in total and limiting Spurs to chances mostly outside their penalty box.  Osman and Pienaar were extremely productive here with the latter notching a goal.  Jelavic's dramatic winner was his only effort on goal in 90 minutes which must be concerning for Moyes.   A lot of Spur's threat came from the full back positions with Vertonghen and Walker with the strike partnership of Adebayor and Defoe registering just one shot between them.  Dempsey is quietly finding his groove in this team and could prove an decent differential for the winter wildcard.

Despite the high number of goals both teams had below average number of shots against their opponents with Liverpool scoirng with all three of their shots on target.  Sterling remains a very decent fantasy option and Shelvey could also be considered for a cheap midfielder slot, especially if he is considered Liverpool's number 2 strike option, although watch out for January signings here.  Matthew Taylor was fairly effective for the home team but overall Liverpool kept the Hammers very quiet.  Would have been great to see what Carrol would have done against his parent club.

Another game with fairly below average performances in terms of shots totals from both teams but with a good number of goals scored.  Was it raining all weekend?  Sunderland managing just 3 shots in the box is pretty worrying and many FPL managers would have felt the pain of Fletcher missing out.  Fernando Torres wrote a lot of the weekend's headlines with his two goal performance.  It's possibly a sign that Benitez has alter Chelsea tactically to bring in the striker more, this is the first time thiis season he has been the player with to dominant Chelsea's attack numbers.

Arsenal are really struggling this season and this performance was pretty poor, they were fortunate to score at all with Giroud kept very queit leaving Gervinho to thrash around in the West Brom's penalty box without effect.  For the visitors, Brunt was very industrious down the wing although West Brom mustered very little threat.

Yet another game really scraping the barrel for shots on target with Stoke almost completely shut out.  Not much more to say than this other than this!

This is more like it.  Boom!  Snodgrass straight away stands out with a great performance and Norwich fans must hope he's nailed down his place in this team as if so finally represents a great FPL option after his early season promise.  Michu didn't let up either with the most shots of any single player this weekend, indeed almost more than the whole Norwich team.  It's hard to pick out anyone else on the Swansea team as they bristled all over but De Guzman is a class player and starting to produce.

Puncheon has to be the best budget player in FPL right now with his latest goal fully justified by his attacking stats.  Lambert created more chances for others this week than he had himself with a lot of efforts from Southampton coming from midfielders and outside the box, indicative of a well organised away defence perhaps. What little attack Reading mustered came from midfield too.

Another game with more red arrows than green.  For Wigan, McCarthy has done a great job filling in for Maloney as the main threat from midfield.  The Wigan strikers seem to have followed a trend this gameweek that see's not much action for a team's strikers compared with the midfield.  QPR didn't actually field an orthodox striker until Cisse came on (and scored) with Mackie preferred by Redknapp, although no-one really stood out for the travelling team.
